We look back at some of our favourite collaborations of 2020

As you have probably seen, throughout 2020 we have been celebrating 20-years of size?, and to celebrate, we’ve collaborated with some of our favourite brands to bring you a constant flow of unique exclusives. Throughout the year, we’ve taken you across the globe to vibrant destinations, nodded to historic sports events, celebrated iconic subcultures and music scenes, all across a range of archetypal silhouettes and premium apparel. Below, we’ve picked out some of the highlights of our year – it has been a really busy one.

size? x adidas Originals ‘Anniversary City Series’

It wouldn’t be a size? 20th anniversary celebration without a steady flow of adidas Originals collaborations; the ‘Anniversary City Series’ really encapsulated our admiration of terrace-inspired silhouettes along with inspiration from beautiful metropolises around the globe. For this collaboration, we travelled to Liverpool, Cordoba, Shanghai, Havanna, Stuttgart and Johannesburg; throughout the collection, there’s a pallet of vibrant colours, premium suede, retro gum soles and a shiny ‘1/2020’ logo on every heel, adding a precious finish.

size? x adidas Originals BC Trainer ‘Summer Holidays Pack’

One of our best collaborations with adidas Originals this year, the ‘Summer Holidays Pack’ was inspired by the brand’s Leisure and Island series. Unfortunately, most models and tools have been destroyed over time, meaning that a lot of the shoes can’t be recreated; we came up with a plan though, we put together the BC Trainer ‘Summer Holidays Pack’, a series of remodels inspired by these rare designs and colourways.

size? x adidas Originals Gazelle Vintage, BC Trainer and AS 520 ‘Euros’

Although the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament was postponed, our exclusive adidas Originals Euros Pack collection wasn’t. So, to kick things off, the first model in the three-piece collection was the BC Trainer. Taking you back to 1976, the silhouette celebrates one of the most audacious goals scored in a penalty shootout, the ‘Panenka’.

Our second pair headed back to Euro 96 – the last international football tournament on English soil – and for this instalment, our Gazelle Vintage commemorated Paul Gascoine’s infamous ‘Dentist Chair’ celebration. It boasted a decorative print to the footbed, and a white and blue colourway inspired by the England football team’s kit.

For the final instalment in our Euros Pack, we reworked the AS 520 in a guise informed by one of the greatest goals ever scored in a European Championship final: Marco van Basten’s wonder volley in 1988. The same unmistakable hues as the Netherlands’ home strip paint the uppers, and the pair boasts a graphic print of the legendary moment on the footbed. What a worldie.

size? x adidas Originals x Cream

Our final collaboration of 2020 was arguably our finest – we teamed up with adidas Originals and Cream for a release inspired by ‘90s clubbing culture. Joining this collaboration was a range of club-inspired apparel plus the crowning jewel – a pair of Training PT trainers. All products were coated in a creamy colourway with vibrant punches of colour and limited-edition co-branding. Perfect.

size? x adidas Originals ZX 5000 & 10,000C

Over the past two decades, we have worked endlessly with adidas to bring you a constant flow of highly sought-after releases. Our connection with the brand was further strengthened with the collaborative ZX 5000 & ZX 10,000C pack. For these models, we opted for authentic ‘90s designs infused with size?-inspired colourways and celebratory co-branding.

size? x New Balance 327

We really do love an archive-inspired silhouette, so we were made up to put our spin on one of the most sought-after silhouettes of 2020, the New Balance 327. The timeless union of suede and nylon automatically brings an element of nostalgia to a release, and NB perfected this technique down to a T with the 327. So, to keep in tune with the vintage aesthetic, we painted our duo in a couple of our favourite ‘archive’ colourways befitting of the era.

size? x New Balance 827 ‘Aster Florists’

When we paid a visit to the NB’s Boston HQ, one thing that stood out to us on our trip was the cities florists and the abundance of aster flowers within them. Coincidentally, asters are traditionally given to celebrate 20th anniversaries – very fitting of our own significant celebration this year. For our duo of 827s, we travelled down the premium route; we wrapped each pair’s upper in a combination of suede and heavy mesh while complimentary gum outsoles sat below.

size? x Nike Air Force 1 ‘Manchester’

Back in the early days of streetwear, footwear collectors would essentially travel the world to hunt down the AF1’s regional exclusives. With this in mind, for our last Nike collab for 2020, we wanted to bring back that element of geographically-themed shoes and create an Air Force 1 that’s inspired by the location of one of our very first size? stores and home to size? HQ – Manchester. High-quality leather, honeycomb detailing and ‘0161’ and worker bee graphics – the silhouette was a true ode to the City of Manchester.

size? x Nike Air Max 95 ‘20 for 20’

The Air Max 95 ’20 for 20’ was a celebration of our twenty-year strong relationship with Nike. Dropping on Air Max Day 2020, our special Air Max 95 was comprised of features from twenty different size? exclusives from over the last twenty years. The shoe presented a bold new colourway that commemorated and commended our history and community – a perfect project for our 20th anniversary celebrations.

size? x PUMA New York

After having a rummage through PUMA’s back catalogue, we unearthed a custom-built trainer built for New York Jets’ Joe Namath. Information regarding its history is scarcely available, but one thing that we knew for certain is that we had to resurrect its stunning Jets-inspired colour palette. So, in honorary fashion, we brought the striking white and green suede shoe back to life on the closest PUMA silhouette we could find to that of the 1-of-1 OG as possible.

size? x PUMA Style Rider ‘Easter Egg’

Our exclusive PUMA Style Rider ‘Easter Eggs’ were designed with loads of hidden details, bringing some fun to these classic trainers. Throughout the trainers, we added tons of tiny details throughout the uppers, footbed and sole unit; PUMA added their own too, completing this collaborative Easter egg hunt.

size? x Reebok Classic Leather, Club C & NPC ‘Classics by size?’

We’ve always been big fans of some of the classic styles that sit within the Reebok line-up, and that’s why we created our very own Reebok ‘Classics by size?’ collection. Within the release, there were three models that needed no introduction: the Club C, NPC and Classic Leather, all of which were executed with vintage chalk leather uppers and soft grey French-terry linings making them look as though they had been pulled straight out of an archive catalogue.

size? x Reebok x Kit-Cat Clock Club C

On our last Reebok collaboration of the year, we teamed up with iconic clock manufacturers Kit-Cat Clock for a playful iteration of the brand’s Club C – a silhouette we are really fond of here at size?. Dotted around the upper, we decorated the pair with various characteristics found on their clocks, including the moving eyes and the beaming cats face. We also put together a matching clock to sit alongside the trainer, featuring elements of our signature orange and ‘ginger’ style paint job on the body
