The best mules to take into spring

Share This:

Spring has sprung and it’s starting to feel good; days are longer, nights are lighter, and there’s a buzz in the air that only a new season can bring. Springtime is all about renewal and change – so, when we think about what we want to breathe new life into, it’s got to be footwear.

With transitional months come spring showers, so though it’s not quite time to retire those reliable GORE-TEX silhouettes, blue skies are signalling the reach for mules and clogs. We’re big advocates for mules – there’s something for every occasion – camping and post-trail recovery, or running quick errands and dinner dates. Honestly, the options are endless. Let’s talk about them.

Clarks Originals Solsbury Mule

We’re starting off strong with the perfect mule for transitional weather. Meet the Solsbury Mule from Clarks Originals. Inspired by the iconic Desert Trek (spot the centre seam), this slip-on is ideal to take you from spring to summer thanks to the raised heel, which gives you a little more coverage should unpredictable weather take you off guard.

Birkenstock Naples Wrapped

A new addition to Birkenstock’s sprawling catalogue, the Naples silhouette is on everyone’s list this year. Distinct in its appearance, the upper adheres to a moccasin blueprint complete with accent stitching and a saddle on the vamp. This design works well thanks to its versatility, fitting seamlessly anywhere from a coffee run in jorts or a more formal trouser setup.

UGG Greenport Slide

UGG’s entry this year for your indoor-outdoor collection is the Greenport Slide. A cosy slip-on that boasts naturally moisture-wicking sheepskin lining and insole to offer pure comfort with or without socks. Things are familiar underfoot with that signature sugarcane EVA tooling, translating the feeling we love from the classic boots into something that’s sunny day appropriate.

Keen UNEEK

Though not technically a mule, this one had to be on the list regardless. Keen’s UNEEK sandal not only utilises recycled materials, but it’s also super comfortable with a contoured fit that adheres to your foot, and a microfibre lining adds a soft touch. As suggested in the name, this silhouette has a unique look that pairs well with everything from skirts to hiking pants.

Birkenstock Boston

Now it’s over to one of the heavyweights of the mule world – Birkenstock’s Boston. Originally launched in 1979, this design has seen a lot and lived to tell the tale. While some may take this one with them through the year, with the accompaniment of a cable knit sock, others determine spring is the time to bring the Bostons out of their hibernation. An untouchable piece of Germanic design, Birkenstock’s mule is deliciously minimalist with a textured suede upper that drapes over the cork midsole.

Crocs Classic Clog

Unshakeable, the Classic Clog is nothing short of, well, a classic. Designed to go absolutely everywhere with you, these slip-ons are water-friendly and can even be personalised with a selection of Jibbitz that are seemingly never-ending. So whether you’re poolside, collecting takeout, exploring the world or heading to the laundry room, there’s a Classic Clog to accompany you upon that particular journey. Trust us, they’re as comfy as people say.
