Say hello to the Vans Half Cab ‘Taxi’ pack – ?exclusive

It’s been a mainstay for Vans ever since it burst onto the scene in 1992, and now in its 30th year, the Half Cab arrives with a duo of colourways exclusive to size? The innovative design first came about when the legendary Steve Caballero updated the Vans Caballero, making it a ‘lighter, better, faster’ iteration of its higher rising predecessor.

The Half Cab – named after the skate manoeuvre – first arrived fittingly with function in mind, offering something robust and lightweight for long days at the skate park. Skaters had been sawing off the top half of the Vans Caballero to make it easier to wear when doing more technical tricks, and the Half Cab took note of this with a mid-rising design for a more versatile fit.

For our ?exclusive, we looked to New York and London, and were inspired by the iconic taxi colours of both cities. Starting with the brighter ‘New York’ release, the shoe comes with hairy yellow suede and the instantly recognisable checkerboard pattern on the collar, sidewall and laces. The darker ‘London’ version also replicates the city’s cabs, with an all-over black hue in mixed materials of plush suede and textile. Although both pairs are head turners in their own right, the real charm of these exclusives lies in the details.

Both pairs include the classic Vans license plate, but each one is coated in the actual colours used for New York and London plates. Underneath, the iced soles display ‘Off Duty’ signs for a further reference to taxi cabs, and the foot-bed of each style is printed with a map of each city. The final touch comes via Half Cab labels on the tongue and sidewalls, with the ‘London’ version displaying the same orange hue of that found on London taxi signs.

The Vans Half Cab ‘Taxi’ – ?exclusive launches on 23.09.2022 in both colourways. They are available in men’s and women’s sizes, and are priced at £80.
