Meet our Air Huarache inspired artist Constance Read

To coincide with the release of our size? Exclusive Nike Air Huarache, we worked together with two up and coming artists breaking new ground with their contemporary work. We asked for their creative response to the iconic ‘Terra’ colourway used on the silhouette, to see how each one interpreted it in their own way.

First, we meet Constance Read (@constanceread), a silkscreen artist based in Norfolk. Learning her craft in New York, Connie opts for a more traditional approach to silkscreen printing, using paper stencils in place of digital tech to create more personal pieces. Inspired by the world around her, the work focuses on colour and shape, with some pieces representing elements of the British Landscape.

Connie’s project blends bold colours with warped shapes. The ‘Terra’ palette bleeds in to its surroundings, with complementing tones creating definition. The work is warm and contemporary, subtle features such as the speckled accents mix up the textures, while the bold hues catch the eye. Contrasting dark tones underpin each piece, allowing the Terra notes to really shine.

The Protagonist series seeks to promote creators who challenge the status quo. These are community members who have unapologetically carved out their own niche, done things their way, and defined their own comfort zones. Connie’s work is expressive, abstract and bold, by combining a traditional technique with modern styles the result is truly one of a kind.
