This volley-inspired adidas Originals AS 520 is the last instalment to our exclusive Euros Pack
Sadly we didn't get to see Gareth's boys in white kicking leather around the stadiums of Europe this summer – would we have won anyway? We can only dream – but you can still have a bit of Euros-inspired fun with our third and final adidas Originals Euros Pack instalment, the AS 520.
You've already seen our Panenka penalty inspired BC Trainer and Gazza's Dentist Chair influenced Gazelle, and next up we're reworking the AS 520 in a guise informed by one of the greatest goals ever scored in a European Championship final: Marco van Basten's wonder volley in 1988.
After already bagging a hat-trick against the late Sir Bobby Robson's England squad and scoring the winner against West Germany to send the Netherlands into the final to face the USSR, van Basten hammered home Arnold Mühren's sweeping, inch-perfect cross to seel the Netherlands 2-0 victory. It's one of those goals that'll never be forgotten; one that you often try to copy down at 5-a-side; one that you'll never hit quite as sweet as The Swan or Utrecht; one that serves as the inspiration for our exclusive AS 520.
We've painted the AS 520 – a model that first appeared as part of adidas Spezial's SS19 collection – in the same unmistakable orange and white hues as the Netherlands' home strip across its suede and leather uppers. It's signed off in classic adidas fashion with a cushioning rubber midsole and a Trefoil pattern outsole for heightened grip. As we did with the last two models in the pack, this pair boasts a graphic print of the legendary moment on the footbed. What a worldie.
Our adidas Originals AS 530 Euros Pack will be available via the size? launches app soon and in size? stores on Friday 25th September, priced at £75 and available in both men's and women's sizes.
