Arriving in the ‘80s, adidas Originals’ ZX series changed the game when it hit the running world. The legendary lineage has produced a host of innovative silhouettes over the years, with each designed to suit the specific needs of different runners – such as pronation and supination – meaning there was a runner out there to suit everyone. The boundary-pushing series continues to roll out all-new models today, but this season we thought we’d take you back to the beginning and revive the silhouette that started it all, the ZX 500.
Before the iconic ZX ‘000s’ series arrived in the ’90s – bringing with it game-changing innovations such as Torsion – adidas’ ZX story began in 1984 with the ’00s’ series, kicking off with the ZX 500. The model was the catalyst for the series, starting off a new revolution of wearable technology for adidas.
Sporting a nylon mesh upper with supportive suede reinforcements, the seminal ZX 500 silhouette returns exclusively to size? in a striking maroon and yellow palette. Just like back in ’84, the model boasts a dual-density EVA midsole that provides you with supportive cushioning underfoot, with a plastic moulded heel counter which helps to keep your foot stable to reduce the risk of injury.
A ghilly-loop lacing system makes fastening a breeze, allowing you to tighten the laces from the top to the bottom with one quick pull, while a padded foam collar serves up plush comfort from the moment you step in. Finishing the pair, a rubber outsole sits below and boasts a shock-absorbing piston stud construction, cushioning the impact of your foot hitting the floor and keeping you glued to the surface.
