Jordan 1 High Defiant

The Jordan 1 changed everything when it was first released in 1985. Its colours (some not-so rules friendly), profile and superstar sponsor aided a seismic shift for Nike and for the athletic footwear industry as a whole. However, in the years following its birth, the Air Jordan 1 also went on to champion a somewhat unexpected legacy, that of an iconic skating shoe.

It turns out the shoe was as perfect for skateboarding as it was for basketball. The 1’s high collar and Air cushioning were well suited for the 80’s Vert skaters. Its vibrant colour combinations also went down well with a group of skateboarding who were helping to define street skating. Then, in 1987, a video appearance featured Jordan 1’s on the feet of Lance Mountain, more or less cementing the shoe as a skate classic.

To celebrate its history in skateboarding culture, Jordan has collaborated with Nike SB for a very special rendition of the Jordan 1 this season. The rendition’s durable leather uppers sport a Light Bone colourway, which, over time, distresses to reveal popping pink detailing underneath. The combined colours pay homage to Chicago, Los Angeles, Paris and New York – all of which have been so pivotal in Jordan Brand and skateboarding history.

The Jordan x Nike SB Jordan 1 will be available via the size? previews app and in selected size? stores on Saturday 25th May, priced at £130 and available in men’s and women’s sizes
