Celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary this month, we headed down to our Liverpool store for the latest in our Selected By series. As with many other major cities in the UK, Liverpool is currently in the middle of a transitional period of development. Traditional landmarks such as the Albert Dock and Liverpool Cathedral sit alongside futuristic, forward thinking structures like the Liverpool Museum and Mann Island. Our store sits comfortably on Bold Street, in amongst a selection of great food locations, vintage clothing stores, and independent coffee houses.

We headed over to speak to some of the staff and find out a bit more about the historic city, and take a look at the latest products available instore.

What are some of your favourite things to do in Liverpool?

It’s got a great vibe all round. The culture and history of the city speak for themselves so there’s so much to see and do.

Any interesting things to get up to in the local area?

The city has a wide variety of activities to get lost in, whether it be taking the Beatles tour and seeing the Cavern Club or heading down to the waterfront to the Albert Dock where you’ll find amazing views overlooking the River Mersey. If you like getting out and about, Crosby Beach, Allerton Towers and Calderstone’s Park are great for dog walks. If the weather is bad then you have two vibrant museums and the Liverpool Tate to keep you entertained. There are also lots of creative spaces in the Baltic Triangle which are worth checking out.

Where are the best places to grab something to eat in the city?

For me that would have to be Free State Kitchen, they do the best burgers. It’s tucked away on Maryland street up by the Everyman Theatre.

What have you been wearing in your footwear rotation lately?

Easy one, a lot of adidas Originals at the moment including NMD’s, Stan Smith’s, and the Superstar Primeknit. Converse 70s are a staple and now that we’re heading into the colder months, a solid pair of Red Wing Boots.

Any musical recommendations that you’ve been listening to?

Moodymann’s DJ Kicks album. Also ‘Diggin Disco Deep (RSD 2016) vinyl only – I always get great recommendations from the guys down at 3b records.

Tell us about some of your all time favourite shoes.

It’s a tough one. I thought about this for a while but I have to say it’s got to be a Stan Smith in the classic white & green. I love the fit, the shape, the simplicity of the shoe – it lends itself to everything I wear and more.

What do you like to do for fun outside of the workplace? Any hidden talents that we should know about?

I enjoy walking my dog Bob along Crosby Beach. I also like listening to vinyl and attempting to mix it! To switch off, I love watching a bit of Louis Theroux.

What are some of your favourite things about Liverpool?

The music scene is so diverse here, full of some great bands and artists, and the city feels so alive. It doesn’t matter what time of day or night it is, there will always be something to draw you in. The city is also home to a lot of brilliant independent shops, bars and restaurants that really add to the atmosphere in town.

Any interesting things to get up to in the local area?

The Anglican Cathedral is definitely worth a visit, Sefton Park plays host to a lot of festivals over the summer, and Fact cinema has lots of exhibitions and screenings on fairly frequently showcasing some unique talent, both from Liverpool itself and further afield.

Where are the best places to grab something to eat in the city?

Yard Bird opposite China Town is always a great place to get food from. Almost Famous and Death Row Diner are both brilliant places to eat, with Almost Famous having most of its food named after famous people, and Death Row Diner being decked out like Death Row.

What have you been wearing in your footwear rotation lately?

All black Vans Old Skool, and Adidas Campus Primeknit.

Any musical recommendations that you’ve been listening to?

Mad Alice, a recently signed Liverpool based band, they blend Jack White inspired blues with Led Zeppelin style rock. Cream, for some classic blues rock, John Martyn for some Folk. Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, and Joe Bonamassa for some modern blues.

Tell us about some of your all time favourite shoes.

The adidas Originals Gazelle OG. I really like the slimmer sole and profile of such a classic shoe.

What do you like to do for fun outside of the workplace? Any hidden talents that we should know about?

I’ve been a keen rock climber and winter mountaineer for many years, so if I’m not at work I’ll be at one of Liverpool’s climbing walls or on a mountain somewhere. I did a 50 mile Fell running Ultra Marathon and am doing another one next year. I’ve also been Snowboarding for just over 17 years.

What are some of your favourite things about Liverpool?

The mass of different experiences to be had here, there are so many unique activities to do involving music, leisure and sport, and it’s forever growing and evolving.

Any interesting things to get up to in the local area?

There are great historical landmarks and experiences that are a must see, including the two Cathedrals, The Cavern and also the Liverpool & Maritime museums that showcase so many interesting things about the city.

Where are the best places to grab something to eat in Liverpool?

There’s an Indian street food restaurant a couple doors up from our store on Bold Street, that is quite possibly the best Indian I’ve ever had. There is also a Texas/American Country style chicken house called Yard Bird opposite the China Town Arch on Berry Street that has great dishes for a good price.

What have you been wearing in your footwear rotation lately?

I’ve recently been wearing Nike Air Max 95’s and a few different pairs of Asics Gel Lyte & Gel Kayano.

Any musical recommendations that you’ve been listening to?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Flume – Skin and Hucci. Both artists remix a lot of current songs and make them 10x better to get down too.

Tell us about some of your all time favourite shoes.

The Nike Air Max 90 has to be up there, every pair I’ve had has lasted a long time. I think my new current favourite would be the Air Max 95, the new colourways/styles they’ve brought out recently have really set the bar on the street locally in my eyes.

What do you like to do for fun outside of the workplace? Any hidden talents that we should know about?

I like experiencing new food, and also travelling. Photography and illustration were part of my University course, so anything fashion/lifestyle orientated around me I like to capture and display on social media.

What are some of your favourite things about Liverpool?

It’s home to some of the nicest people you can meet, everyone’s always up for a chat. The nightlife is amazing too, probably the best place for a night out in the UK for me.

Any interesting things to get up to in the local area?

Go and watch two of the biggest football clubs in the country, Liverpool and Everton, both are probably the heartbeat of the city. Chill out down by the docks, there are some good bars and places to drink, as well as some mad stuff going on alongside it all. Shop till you drop in Liverpool One, there are so many shops its ridiculous. There are always some insane food markets that come out as well close to christmas time, I remember last year I got a kangaroo burger or something, was a belter!

Where are the best places to grab something to eat in the city?

I’m so easy with food to be honest, Pattersons up by the old Cream club does some great deals on chicken. Its basically a posh version of a KFC…

What have you been wearing in your footwear rotation lately?

I’m currently wearing the adidas Ultraboost uncaged. I’ve recently been wearing, Nike Air Presto Tech Pack, Air Max 95, Sock Dart and Free Runs, although around the house I live in my Benassi’s.

Any musical recommendations that you’ve been listening to?

Any remixes by Seeb I’ve been listening to a lot lately, aswell as 21 Pilots. They’ve got a very good new album.

Tell us about some of your all time favourite shoes.

That’s never an easy question. I’d be quick to say the Presto is my favourite shoe, mainly because the QS Tech pack that released last year were beautiful and fitted so well. But I have to mention the Air Max 95 too, just loved by the scouser all round.

What do you like to do for fun outside of the workplace? Any hidden talents that we should know about?

Football, football, football. Constantly watch my beloved Arsenal. If I’m honest I’ll watch or play literally any sport. I consider myself a decent little chef too, I don’t mind rustling up the occasional masterpiece!

What are some of your favourite things about Liverpool?

I think Liverpool has the best independents, you’ll find that some of the best shops, restaurants and bars and cinemas in Liverpool are independent. Liverpool breeds creativity; you can’t go far around the city without seeing new music events or art exhibitions being advertised.

Any interesting things to get upto in the local area?

There’s always something to do in Liverpool, Wirral Way is something that I did recently, it’s a 12 mile cycle ride that runs along a beautiful traffic free path through the Wirral Countryside and along the coast.  There are always music events on in the city, I love going to gigs as obviously Liverpool has one of the best music scenes in the country and more often than not, you’ll be able to find something amazing going on in one of the many venues.

Where are the best places to grab something to eat in the city?

There are so many good places to eat, you are spoiled for choice really. Bold street and its surrounding streets have probably got the best selection of restaurants. Maray is a personal favourite, it’s got an amazing selection for veggies too. Maguires pizza is another favourite, in the front it looks like a normal pizza parlour but the back room is a venue where you can watch bands play while having a fresh slice.

What have you been wearing in your footwear rotation lately?

Recently I have mostly been wearing my bronze Nike Cortez, Air Max 95 ‘Phantom’ and Vans Old Skool.

Any musical recommendations that you’ve been listening to?

Recently I’ve been listening to a band called Graveyard. They’re like, hard, psychedelic, bluesy rock and they are unreal, definitely give them a listen. There’s a local Liverpool metal band called Iron Witch who are also really good, if you’re into that!

Tell us about some of your all time favourite shoes.

My favourite shoes are probably Vans Old Skool. I‘ve always worn them since I was young and they are my favourite ‘go to’ trainers for pretty much any outfit.

What do you like to do for fun outside of the workplace? Any hidden talents that we should know about?

I love to crochet! I’m 23 going on 80… I find crocheting very relaxing and therapeutic, I taught myself how to do it when I was in university because I was doing Biochemistry at the time, so needed a creative outlet!
