Following the success of the first European House of Vans hotspot (House of Vans London), Manchester has been selected to host a unique weekend of cultural celebration of art, music, street culture and skateboarding on 2nd-3rd October at The Great Northern Warehouse in Deansgate.

The Warehouse will undergo a dramatic interior transformation into the latest in the ‘House of Vans’ series weekend event. The music side promises to be a hot night with some of the biggest names in Drum & Bass, Dub and Electronic business including the likes of Jenna & The G’s, 8 Gold Rings ft Fox and SparkzMadam X, Roy Davis Jr and Shadow Child.

To coincide with this, we asked three of the city’s finest young creatives for their take on the iconic Sk8-Hi.

Each of three Mancunian illustrators chosen for the project visited the House of Vans London for a first hand H.O.V. experience. Situated in the Old Vic tunnels underneath Waterloo Station the London venue comprises of a Skate park, gig venue, cinema, café and Art Gallery and served as a background for a frenzied creative session leading to the production of three unique Sk8-Hi inspired artworks.

Whilst the three artists all hale from the Manchester area each has their own distinctive style, Lottie Puncheon, famed for her deceptively simple characters that appear through out her drawings and comics. Lewis Loughman who’s inspiration is clear in his hard line style that draws on everything from 80’s cartoons through to hand poked tattoos. And TJ Dolan who’s years of writing graffiti are evident in his bold aesthetic which also owes something to 60’s pop and psychedelia.

Each piece of artwork has been turned into a limited edition RISO print which will be produced within the city of Manchester. Graphic designer Steve Hockett took on the challenge of preparing the art work for the RISO process, a print technique fame for it’s bold reproduction of colours and organic look.

One limited edition print will be available at size? Manchester each week for the next three weeks starting with:

Lottie Pencheon – Tuesday, September 15th

Lewis Loughman – Tuesday, September 22nd

TJ Dolan – Tuesday, September 29th

Stay tuned for more details and announcements over the coming few weeks.
