New Balance 740 – size? exclusive
To runners it’s a Y2K bringback, to others it’s the new runner on the block. New Balance’s 740 combines retro sensibilities with a touch of heritage and it’s about to get the size? exclusive treatment. Whether you’re rekindling with the once cult favourite or getting to know it for the first time, the 740 is about to become your new go-to.
There’s a lot to admire in hand and on foot with this one. Angular trims and metallic overlays of purple and blue take this everyday, wearable shoe into a new contemporary space. But peek closer, and the NB genetics are all there: knit mesh uppers provide the sporty look that’s morphed into a city-friendly style, segmented soles, a streamlined design and a focus on comfort – all honouring the silhouettes 2000s haydey design.
Made to be worn into the ground, the pair are mounted on ABZORB soles delivering long-lasting comfort from 7:40am to 7:40pm. A sticky outsole and ‘N’ labelling round out the design to finish.
From LDN > AMS.
In the lead-up to the New Balance 740 launch, size? was on the ground from LDN > AMS. And what better way to test this out-of-the-box comfort than by heading to the Dutch capital with creatives @tomschwimmbeck, @amyyleungg, @briannapaiden, and @tom.seager_ to meet our NL friends @yo.yomi and @kymorsade for a day of creating original work and exploring the local vibrant neighbourhoods from 7:40am to 7:40pm.
Once we touched down in Dam, we strolled through the city’s cobblestones. It’s easy to see why so many people are lured here: heritage canals, chromatic tulips, what seems like a thousand different types of cheese, and independent street style.
The day unfolded like a local’s dream as we meandered through Amsterdam, starting with a stroll along Zeedijk, one of the city’s oldest streets and a vibrant hub of black-owned businesses. We passed by cosy cafes and independent stores, each exuding a unique charm. Our journey then took us on bikes through Nieuwmarkt Square, where the imposing De Waag, once the city’s esteemed gateway, stands as a testament to vintage architecture. Immersed in the energetic atmosphere, we experienced the essence of Amsterdam through the eyes of a resident.
A pit stop to Meo’s Colosseum for the best authentic Surinamese/Caribbean food was up next. A hidden gem, tucked away in Oud West, it often escapes the notice of the average Amsterdammer, and after joining forces with streetwear moguls Patta in 2021, Meo’s has gained a devoted foodie following amongst the community.
We ended the night at the locals’ favourite Cafe 40 where sneaker enthusiasts and music lovers connected and experienced the New Balance 740 up close while DJs and producers @tidakamara_ and @t.no provided the magnetic energy of a mix of sounds. Volmaakt.
