After our recent Rinse link-up with the all-new Norf Face – comprising of JME, @capo_lee, @bigfris and @shortybbk – for our latest size? sessions, we got an insight into what happens when a group of grime pioneers team up together.
Now, we are taking a bit of a different route, inviting an exciting mix of grime MCs to our size? podcast, all representing different eras of the iconic genre of music.
@novelistguy, @yungsbk and @sharkymajor all join us on this podcast which was hosted by Rinse FM dj @Jyoty. Check it out below.
Novelist
Novelist is one of the biggest names in UK grime, with a rich career in music over the past decade.
Hailing from Lewisham, South East London, he was a founding member of the Square crew, with a group of like-minded teenage creatives. After gaining a reputation for their involvement with pirate radios, Novelist’s songs began to make waves on mainstream radios, getting appearances on the likes of BBC Radio 1Xtra and Rinse FM.
In 2014, he was nominated for the Best Grime Act in the MOBO Awards, while this rapidly expanding recognition landed him an opening slot on Major Lazer’s London show on his 2015 European tour. Today, Novelist is continuing to establish his name as one of the best MCs in the UK, after his debut album Novelist Guy (2018), he featured on a ‘Ladbroke Grove (Remix)’ with AJ Tracey and General Levy, while he has just featured on Ocean Wisdom’s new song ‘Racists’.
SBK
Also on the roster is SBK, a voice for the new generation of MCs/producers on this podcast.
Originally from Hertfordshire, this quickly rising star is making his mark on the London scene. He first gained attention for his SBTV freestyle in 2016; aged at just 14, he proved his talent very early on.
As well as sharing a stage with some of the greats (Skepta, JME, AJ Tracey), he runs his own label called ENXRGY RECORDINGS, and the Serenity By SBK clothing range. What’s more, he has featured on mainstream radio too, on the likes of Rinse FM, Capital Xtra, BBC Radio 1 and more.
Sharky Major
Last but not least, Sharky Major is on the show with a glut of OG grime knowledge.
Sharky Major was a founding member – alongside Marcus Nasty – of the N.A.S.T.Y Crew (Natural Artistic Sounds Touching You), a group hailing from East London.
The artist has a few releases this year too, including his most recent, ‘Bills To Pay’, featuring D Power Diesle and Discarda.
