Back in 2006, we provided staff working in some of our original foundation retail stores the opportunity to get involved in a global campaign focused around the ‘sneaker store’ concept. The ‘Clerks’ pack looked to some of the biggest cities across the globe and shed light on retailers who keep the culture moving forward.

Holding it down for LA: UNFTD, Union and Stussy worked on the Dunk High, Air Force 180 and Blazer, respectively – providing a vibrant look into the flavour of the West Coast landscape.

San Francisco was represented by HUF, Nort and True, who interpreted the Air Max 90, Dunk High and Air Humara.

Lastly, the torch was handed over to us to show how we do things in the UK. We dished the challenge out to our store staff across the country to design a shoe which they thought represented where they came from. We were given the chance to rework the Air Max 90, Classic BW and Air Stab.

Nike Air Max 90 ‘Brighton’

Brighton is known for both its flamboyant and traditional traits, which has made the city a go-to coastal destination. Famous for its lengthy beachfront, the colours found on the Air Max 90’s upper reference the varying shades found on the doors of beach huts just off the pebbly promenade.

Nike Air Stab ‘Carnaby Street’

Carnaby Street’s colour-up referenced the area’s most famous era throughout the 1960s – a time when the street was awash with colour on every building front and along the pavings. The street stood at the forefront of fashion throughout the ’60s, so a broad range of materials was used across the shoe to showcase the diverse mix of clothing on offer.

Nike Air Classic BW ‘Manchester’

Lastly, we headed up north to Manchester for a shoe that took on a darker colour palette. Known to many as the ‘rainy city’, the store’s take on the theme channelled a grey and black combination, accented with our signature orange. Materials used throughout were designed to withstand whatever the weather threw at them, with thick leather panelling sitting atop rigid mesh on the toe box and underlay.

Linking each of the shoes together, an icon was made to represent each city and and sat inside on each of the insoles.
