size? collections | Marium Begum | Nike Collector
The size? collections series has taken us around the UK, across the pond, and many places in between, but this time, we took a trip to Birmingham. We met up with Marium Begum, or @marium___, a newer collector with a passion for Nike and a growing collection.
Marium’s interest in Nike was initially piqued in childhood, with the brand being so prevalent on the big screen, it’s hard not to notice – Like Mike, Space Jam and Forrest Gump can all take some credit for putting the wheels in motion here. After browsing the sale shelves for years, it wasn’t until shopping for a special pair to start uni with that the Air Max 97 ‘Silver Bullet’ caught her eye. The store not carrying her size turned into a blessing, she went straight home and started researching – after discovering the model was inspired by the Japanese bullet train, the backstory had her hooked.
With around 34 pairs, Marium admits she can be quite selective, as she buys silhouettes to wear, comfort and coordination play a big part in the buying process. Her current top three Nike silhouettes are the Air Max 1, the Air Max 97, and the TN – a more recent addition to the top spot, the model’s recent collaborations cinched it for her. What’s missing from the collection? According to Marium, it’s Sean Wotherspoon’s Air Max 91 (anyone got a spare pair?), along with a Toy Story collab and a Lauren Hill x Jordan collab – although these don’t exist (yet) so we can’t help her there.
