First impressions are everything, and in the music world, this rule holds particular relevance when talking about album covers. An album cover is the face of the record; it provides the artist with the chance to exemplify and symbolise an album’s songs, and as legendary graphic designer Brian Cannon states, “The image is king”. Honouring the importance album artwork plays in the music world, our latest size? exclusive collaboration with adidas Originals reworks the recently revived Training PT in hues inspired by some of the most influential vinyl sleeves ever produced.

If you’re unfamiliar with Brian’s work, he’s been creating seminal record covers for the likes of Oasis, The Verve, Suede and The Super Furry Animals ever since he set up his Microdot Graphic Design company back in the ‘80s. A true living legend, he’s responsible for some of the most recognisable covers of all time, and it’s his work that has gone on to inspire our latest Training PT releases.

We recently caught up with the man himself who shone some light on what it takes to make a great record. “The further into the head of the person you’re working for it’s inevitable that the artwork’s going to be better.”, he shares; we can only imagine to struggles of delving into the minds of the Gallagher brothers but Brian clearly revelled in the challenge, with some of his pieces featuring in Q Magazine’s ‘The Hundred Best Record Covers Of All Time’. 

He went on to state what he thinks the positives of having good album artwork, “The point of a record sleeve, I think, is the added value to a customer. It costs just the same to make a bad record sleeve as a good one. It’s a bonus for the fan”. Keep on reading and we’ll break down the silhouettes…

Built with a clean white breathable mesh base to keep your feet cool and comfortable when you’re on the move, the first of the duo features complimentary white suede overlays at the toe, heel, sidewall and eyestays for added support. Continuing the cool palette, sky blue makes up the signature three stripes, while a darker shade paints the tongue and heel branding. 

Moving onto the second pair, purple is used for the uppers, with hits of pink making up the stripes, heel counter and tongue branding. Below, its distinctive circularly patterned midsole receives the gum treatment, with its counterpart receiving a matching coating of white and blue.
