After its unveiling at the turn of the year, adidas continues to roll out colourways of the all-new Ultra Boost 2019 this season. Working upon the DNA of the original, adidas consulted thousands of runners for performance feedback and reinvented their iconic silhouette with an array of technical updates.

Starting things off, 2019’s new and improved version features 20% more Boost cushioning underfoot than its predecessor. For those who don’t know the science behind this tech, Boost is crafted from a TPU material which compresses under pressure to absorb the impact running places on your foot. The sole then instantly expands back into its natural shape upon lift-off, delivering that stored energy right back into your step – meaning the more energy you expel while out-and-about, be it running or walking, the greater the energy return will be – making your daily commute that little bit easier.

The pair utilises an integrated Torsion Spring within the midsole, helping to support you through each stride by stabilising your foot during push-off and landing. You also needn’t worry about losing your grip; whether you’re on a long distance run or just nipping to your local shops, a Continental™ Rubber outsole prevents any slipping mishaps with sticky traction to the surface.

Acting as a second skin, a Primeknit 360 upper eliminates the pressure points found on standard runners, delivering an engineered fit for targeted support and enhanced movement. The heel cage has also had a redesign. If you remember back to iterations of the original, the cage took inspiration from the classic ZX range of runners from the ’90s and was built in a structured, lightweight plastic. This time it’s been stripped back to its basic framework, saving weight and providing heightened support to your Achilles, meaning there’s less chance of sustaining an injury.

The adidas Ultra Boost 2019 will be launching in four different colourways and will be available via the size? previews app and in size? stores on Thursday 21st February, priced at £160.
