Nike ACG SS19 Collection

Nike‘s cult-followed ACG range was first popularised in the late ’80s/early 90’s after Nike realised their running shoes just weren’t cut out for hours of trekking across mountain ridges in the sun and rain. More needed to be done to ensure the wearer felt comfortable in an outdoor environment without having to worry about whether their kit was up to par.

Shoes in the early ’80s (pre-ACG branding) that encompassed the outdoor mentality were the Lava Dome, Lava High and Magma, a trio that came in low to high varieties dependent on the user’s preference. A vibrant colour palette would also sit tightly alongside deep brown suede, thick sponged mesh or hard-wearing leather. Outerwear followed a similar suit: Gore-Tex and other breathable, functional materials were embedded into multi-pocket jackets which enabled the wearer to take control of their environment.

Last year’s ‘90s-inspired collections rekindled the true essence of the ACG line, and Nike’s offshoot follows them up with another considered selection for the upcoming spring season. This time around the range consists of several strong, heavier pieces, which sit alongside the ever-present t-shirts, waffle knits and long-sleeved garments. The pinnacle piece of the season is a full Gore-Tex Jacket – boasting the famed breathable, waterproof material which has been embedded in some of the most hard-wearing outerwear pieces ever. Full zip fleeces are also presented with brash, vibrant graphics that hint at the franchise’s 30-year history.

The latest Nike‘s ACG Collection will be available online and in selected size? stores on Friday 21st February.
