Áine Zion
A core component of the music we listen to day-to-day is lyrics; a combination of thoughts and feelings laced over a memorable backing track. For this months edition of size? Sessions we took things in a slightly different direction and invited two artists down to size? Manchester, who’s complementary styles worked hand in hand.
First up we’ll take a look at up and coming singer and spoken word artist Áine Zion. Very fresh on the scene (you’d struggle to tell but this was only her second ever live solo performance) Áine’s already had her hand in a host of interesting projects to kickstart her career. Zion’s background stems back to creative direction and management, a path which would eventually lead her to encounter celebrated vocalist Emile Sandé who she’d later go on to feature with on Sandé’s soulful track ‘Garden’ alongside Jay Electronica. That’s not bad for a first feature by anyone’s standards.
Áine’s signature style blends together elements of spoken word and softly sung vocals, and she’s able to switch from each effortlessly over the course of a set. She’ll definitely be an artist to keep an eye on in the next few years as her music matures further and bigger opportunities begin to present themselves.
