To coincide with our ‘Made For Your City’ competition with Eastpak, they have created the ‘#madefor 24hr city blog‘. Their blog focuses on exploring, discovering and creating within the most iconic cities in the world, with this weeks city in focus being London.
Ayishat Akanbi
25, Stylist, London
Ah, London! Who can ignore the buzz of your lively streets, the lure of your glamorous nightlife, or the centuries of history that bursts out of every pub, palace, mansion and cathedral? This city of art, fashion and design is sure to leave a lasting impression on you.
Ace Hotel
100 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6JQ
Galleries, theatres, design studios on the one hand. Bars, clubs, restaurants on the other. Shoreditch is without a doubt my favorite part of London town. With all the goods to attract all kinds of creative types from experimental chefs to renegade artists. And if you want to mix it with the in crowd, the best place to stay is at the Ace Hotel. I love the vibe of this place, its designer furniture, the cute little accessories…there’s even a vintage record player in the corner, for when you want to go old school!
Hoi Polloi @ Ace Hotel
100 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6JQ
This chic, modernist “bistrotheque” in the Ace Hotel is a real stand-out example of the energetic drive for innovation in Shoreditch. Don’t be fooled by the name, Hoi Polloi is anything but common! And, like most places in Shoreditch, it’s open pretty much around the clock: a great place to start (and finish) the day!
The Breakfast Club
2-4 Rufus Street, Hoxton, N1 6PE
If you ask me, breakfast is one of England’s greatest contributions to Western civilization (second only to afternoon tea!). If you’re worried about the calories, or are you rapidly running out of holes in your belt, The Breakfast Club in Hoxton offers more than just the traditional fry up – you have to give their mueslis, porridge, fruit salads and smoothies a try!
Rough Trade
91 Brick Lane, E1 6QL
When a small group of Londonites came up with the idea of turning the Truman Brewery on Brick Lane into a music store, people thought they were mad. But here it is! One of London’s most celebrated, most awarded and most loved retail destinations (or one of mine in any case!). The curated stock of music is amazing. And if listening is not enough for you, there are hundreds of books and magazines about anything and everything connected with the music industry. But most of all, I come here for the experience.
Timberyard
61-67 Old Street, EC 1V 9HW
Would you like a serve of inspiration with that? There’s a reason I spend so much time hanging out here and it’s not just the fantabulously good tea and coffee. For this high-spec, ‘geek-chic’ café is as much a vibrant workspace as a cozy eatery, Timberyard is a top choice for informal, spontaneous or even coincidental meetings that might just spark something new.
Market Place
11-13 Market Place, W1W 8AH
Eat, drink, dance…I can’t decide which part of this urban-chic bar and diner I like most. Fortunately, you don’t have to decide right away. Grab a fantastic meal at the street-level bar and then head downstairs for some of the best beats in town.
Dance Tunnel
95 Kingsland High Street, E8 2PB
Looking for a little inside information? This address is currently one of the hottest in London! Some of the biggest names in house and techno spin here every week. Be sure to check out Voodoo Ray’s pizza parlor upstairs between sets. The perfect place to refuel before hitting the dance floor.
