Ewing 33 Hi & Guard Mid Returns
Last year marked the return of Ewing Athletics, the first ever footwear company to be owned by a professional basketball player. Meeting the demand for 90’s retro basketball shoes, the US brand re-launched with some original colourways of their iconic 33 Hi sneaker silhouette followed by the Focus and the Guard Mid.
The 33 Hi has been the flagship Ewing Athletics silhouette since the beginning – it was the first main release from the shoe company Patrick Ewing began in 1989. It came in a countless amount of colorways that could be mixed and matched to their college or favourite NBA basketball team, and also featured the classic reversible ankle strap that can be worn on the front or back of the shoe.
Worn by Patrick in the 1990 NBA season and seen in many early 90s movies, videos and album covers, the Ewing range was an instant hit.
A mid cut based on the 33 Hi silhouette. It was released in 1991, one year after the 33 Hi and featured the same sole and midsole, but came with no ankle strap in favor of a 3/4 ankle cut and a repositioning of the trademark “33” logo on the outer heel. It was created as a lower cut alternative to the 33 Hi – a more accessible performance option for smaller players looking for quickness and range of motion rather than the extra ankle support. September 20th marks the launch of two new Guard Mid models – the suede build comes in mustard with black accents as the other version comes in a mix of blue prince with white and vibrant orange featuring leather uppers.
The Ewing 33 Hi (£110) is available now with the Guard Mid (£95) landing Monday 23rd September online and in selected stores in sizes UK 4.5 – 13.5 (Half sizes included).
