Fresh from our latest Creator Series, we introduce textile artist Millie Rose (@millierosetextiles) and her original take on the Vans Needlework collection. Inspired by the natural world, Millie grows flowers, plants and moulds at home to form her samples. As a tufting and embroidery specialist, she uses a microscope to study their unique cellular patterns and then incorporates these into her assortment of customised rugs and apparel.

For Millie’s design, she selected the rose print and checkerboard Anaheim 44 DXs as muses, creating a pair of cargo trousers and a bag using her innovative method.

“When my needlepoint vans arrived in the post off size? I instantly wanted to create an outfit with different textile techniques. Recently I have been up-cycling preloved clothing and accessories”.

The trousers opt for a neutral sandy tone decorated with varying cellular outlines. Loose-fitting and lightweight, they sit atop the Anaheim silhouette like a match made in heaven.

“The designs throughout my brand are based on cell images, I have a microscope in my studio where I grow plants and flowers – these are then placed under the lens for design inspiration.”

For the bag, she opts for an embossed mould-spore aesthetic against the black base, which complements the black of the checkerboard pair to great effect. With a design inspired by living organisms, Millie breathes new life into the Needlework collection with her authentic and innovative approach – signing off in her signature style of combining life and art.
