For number 22 in our size? sessions Mix series, we’re joined by the percussive and tribal house DJ Melé. Hailing from The Wirral, his catalogue thus far wields a whole war-chest of anthemic music, from his own releases to his remixes and production for some of the UK’s hottest talents including Mabel, Ray Blk, Kano and Friendly Fires.

Tell us about yourself; where you’re from, what you do and what’s your shoe size?

“I’m Melé, I’m a DJ and Producer from Merseyside. Size 9”

How did you get started in the music industry?

“I started making and playing music when I was 13. My first records got picked up by labels and started getting played on Radio 1 when I was 17, and its been my job ever since!”

How would you describe your music style?

“Percussive House music with influences from Latin music, hip hop and techno.”

What has been your record of the year so far and what are you looking forward to hearing for the rest of the year?

“The record of the year for me is Saliva Commandos – Werk which is coming out this week on my label Club Bad. I’m looking forward to hearing what producers have been making in lockdown I’m sure there’s a lot of sick music ready to go.”

Have you been making much music recently and can we expect some releases soon?

“Yes, I’ve been in the studio a lot lately. I have a new EP out in October which I’m really excited about.”

Has there been a particular event/party that has stood out for your career?

“Playing to 15 thousand people in Mexico City in March of this year was up there. I’ve been lucky enough to play Glastonbury quite a few times over the years too.”

And looking further ahead, who should we be looking out for in 2021?

“Lots more music hopefully! From me and the label. And fingers crossed we will be able to have some parties again.”

On Friday you’re broadcasting an exclusive size? sessions Mix for us. What can we expect to hear?

“Some unreleased music from me and forthcoming Club Bad tracks. Including a new release we have coming from Yolanda Be Cool which is sick. A few classics are thrown in there too.”

Outside of the music industry, where do you look for inspiration?

“Movies with great soundtracks. Scarface is my favourite.”
