We’re set to be joined by South Londoner Damn Shaq this Friday 3rd of July for number 12 in our size? sessions (20:20 Mix). More than just a DJ, the entertainer and dancer is a tastemaker for today’s generation.
We recently caught up with him to find out a little bit more about his music, his career and as always, his footwear.
Tell us about yourself; where you’re from, what you do and what’s your shoe size?
“Hey, I’m Shaq and I’m the most serious/unserious candidate you’ll ever meet. I’m a South East London DJ that can be funny every now and then. I’m a size 10.”
How did you get started in the music industry?
“Being an apprentice at BBC 1/1xtra on the visualization team opened me up to the music industry amongst other things.”
How would you describe your music style?
What has been your record of the year so far, and what are you looking forward to hearing for the rest of the year?
“Girl Unit, Kelela “WYWD” has to be up there. I’m looking forward to hearing new music from my group Vibbar if I’m honest haha! (is that cheeky? Yes. But there’s no rules)”
And looking further ahead, who should we be looking out for in 2021?
“Rasharn Powell, House of Pharaohs, Lostpointofview and Knucks.”
You did an advert for size? when we released our exclusive Nike React, can you tell us about that?
“It was one of my favourite jobs if I’m honest; I got the opportunity to be my wacky self so I can’t complain.”
This Friday you’re broadcasting an exclusive size?sessions (20:20 Mix) for us. What can we expect to hear?
“During quarantine, I’ve been in a chilled bag of R&B, so expect your feelings to be attacked at times.”
Outside of the music industry, where do you look for inspiration?
“My friends inspire on a daily bases, I’m highly blessed!”
What are your top 3 records of all time?
“I plead the 5th.”
What are your top 3 trainers of all time?
“Air Jordan 1s, Air Forces and Air Jordan 4s.”
