Air Jordan IV ‘Bred’ OG

Celebrating 30 years on from the silhouette’s initial inception, the Air Jordan IV returns in its iconic black and red ‘Bred’ motif.

Familiar to the Jumpman aficionados, the ‘Bred’ colourway – also sometimes known as ‘Black Cement’ – was donned by Jordan during his fourth NBA season. Those old enough to remember “The Shot” on May 7th 1989 will have fond memories of MJ rising to the occasion as he soared high above Craig Ehlo and floated through the air in a moment that seemed to defy both gravity and time. The Jumpman scored the pivotal, last-minute, buzzer-beating point in a thrilling 44-point game that would see the Chicago Bulls progress to the next round of the NBA Finals over their opponents Cleveland Cavaliers. On his feet the Air Jordan IV in a Bulls-inspired black and red palette.

Designed by Tinker Hatfield – the man also responsible for the Jordan III – the IV’s share similar characteristics to the previous year’s third iteration – featuring visible Air in the sole unit as well as a sculpted midsole, which is the same sole unit used on the Nike Air Flight 89.

Returning in 2019, black makes up the majority of the silhouette, while ‘Cement Grey’ accents dress the distinctive ‘winged’ side straps, which help to increase support and allow you to adjust the positioning of the laces.

One notable deviation from recent Jordan 4 iterations is the inclusion of “Nike Air” branding to the heel (rather than the current Jumpman logo). At the time of the pair’s release in the Jordan brand didn’t exist, it was just ‘Air Jordan’ from Nike; music to the ears of OG collectors, it’s this simple nod to the original 1989 model makes them that bit closer to the original than previously released pairs.

The Air Jordan IV ‘Bred’ will be available via the size? previews app, and in selected size? stores on Saturday 4th May, priced between £100 and £165.
