Nike has never been one to shy away from tinkering with their already ground-breaking designs and this season the Nike Air VaporMax is the latest model to receive an upgrade. Ringing in the new year, the Air VaporMax 2019 play host to an ensemble of premium detailing, while retaining plenty of the key features that made the silhouette so revolutionary.
Fast-forward thirty years on from the release of the first ever Air Max model, the VaporMax aimed to stand apart from its predecessors. The revolutionary pair was formed with the idea of using less air, more efficiently. With the aid of pressure maps on the foot, Nike’s designers identified the precise amount of Air needed to support a runner’s step. Building on that technology, the team formed a tread patterned outsole which performed like small pistons; with each of its lugs being pushed into the Air unit and releasing at step-off for that energy-responsive, springy bounce.
Returning in three new colour-ups, the first of which resembles an Oregon University-inspired colour scheme. Hues of white and dark grey craft the TPE-upper, while underfoot an iridescent ‘Lime Green’ sole unit adds a punch of colourful contrast from the muted uppers.
Next up, a ‘Black/Fuschia/Green’ colourway sees the model delivered in a primarily black upper, offset by colourful hits of green and pink with an iridescent blue VaporMax sole unit below. The third release sees the updated runner painted in ‘Escape Orange’ with a glistening silver midsole sitting below.
