Paul Lempa – aka @kixar_studio reimagines the Chuck 70 as part of our Converse Creators Series
We’re heading across the pond for this Converse Creators Series instalment, and for this edition, we’re taking a look at US-based footwear custom king Paul Lempa’s Chuck 70 reimaginings.
The @kixar_studio creator sone a light on how he started customising trainers a couple of years back, he told us:
“I started designing sneakers in 2019. It was a great way to integrate many of my interests; art, fashion, pop culture, and sports, into one piece… I have been creating art for nearly 30 years, but it wasn’t until I put a paintbrush to a pair of sneakers that I started to see some success.”
He went on to explain the appeal of Converse’s Chuck Taylor All Star 70 to him as an artist:
“Chuck Taylor’s are an iconic shoe, with a storied history; they may have started as a basketball sneaker, but have since become so much more in areas like high fashion or punk rock. They have a classic silhouette that offers an artist plenty of room to create.”
“Much of my work deals with characters and movies that are near and dear to people,” Paul tells us.
“This project allowed me to step away from that momentarily, and create something completely different. I tried to link feelings that Chuck Taylors evoked, like the beauty of its simplistic and iconic design with imagery that I thought evoked that feeling and also looked great on a shoe – in this case a floral pattern. I also tried to limit how much art and paint I put on the shoes to hopefully retain that unmistakable Chuck Taylor feel.”
Well, we think they all look sublime and we can’t wait to see what our next creator has in store for us…
