There are few modern releases in adidas Originals’ vault that conjure up such strong nostalgia than the Training PT. Whether you love it or hate it, you can’t deny it’s a 00’s icon, and we’re pretty excited to welcome the style back as part of our exclusive adidas Archive series.

Although it didn’t officially hit the shelves until the mid-2000s, the Training PT’s history actually stretches back much further. Standing for ‘Training Prototype’, it was initially designed in ’74, but for some reason or other, its design was deemed a tad too futuristic for the time. Playing it safe, adidas decided to suspend the project’s release until 2007.

Unbeknown at the time to adidas, holding back the release may have been one of the greatest decisions the brand had ever made. In the late-00s to early-10s, the Training PT was at the peak of its success; its streamlined figure made it the perfect model for a whole range of cross-training sports, but it became of those releases that transcended its original purpose.

Despite its athletic aesthetic, the PT was versatile in its nature and looked just as good with a pair of jeans as it did with a tracksuit or shorts. No matter who you were, or why you owned a pair, it was just one of those great all-rounders that you could wear with anything – which is probably the main reason it was one of the most successful adidas releases of its era.

However, as is the case with many fashions, the styles at the height of popularity eventually burn out to make way as the next trend moves in. But now we feel it’s the perfect time for the Training PT to come full circle. Back for the first time in a fair few years, the adidas Originals Training PT returns in its original black, grey and navy makeup.

The model’s breathable mesh base keeps your feet cool and comfortable, while suede overlays work their way around the toe, heel, sidewall and eyestays for added support. Underfoot, its distinctive circularly patterned midsole is back yet again – and it’s sure to be just as comfy today as it was back in the ’00s.
