Nike Shox TL ‘Viotech’ – size? Exclusive

Share This:

For our latest project with Nike, we’ve turned our sights to the Nike Shox TL for a size? Worldwide Exclusive release, featuring the elusive ‘Viotech’ Purple.

Designer Bruce Kilgore – who is perhaps most well-known for being the creative behind the Air Force 1 – developed Shox technology in 1984, three years before the birth of the first Air Max. It wasn’t until 1997 that the tried-and-tested combination of highly resilient PU foam columns, sandwiched between two solid TPU plates, was achieved.

For those who don’t know how Shox technology works, the exposed spring-like pillars absorb the shock of the wearer’s heel striking the ground, returning the energy straight back into the next stride. Working together in union, the solid TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) plates act as stabilisers, distributing the energy evenly across the foot. The Shox TL arrived in 2003, adding the comfort system to the full length of the sole by running 11 absorbent pillars in formation.

Our rendition of the Shox TL takes colour cues from those found on the original ‘Viotech’ Dunk, and many other shoes that have made use of the deep shade of purple over the years.

Using varying shades of grey across the upper, the majority of the form is built from a combination of different breathable mesh materials, supported by a flexible cage the forms around the foot. The signature Viotech purple is found on the lateral Swooshes and heel panel, surrounding the encased Shox ‘S’. The radial side features mismatched red and blue Swooshes on each foot. Nodding to the outsole of the iconic Air Max 1 of the same name, a gum outsole sits underneath the eccentric springs to finish things up.

The size? Exclusive Nike Shox TL ‘Viotech’ will be available via the size? previews app and in all size? stores on Saturday 6th July, priced at £150.
