Converse has always found a way to stay ahead of the curve. Decade after decade, a whole host of materials, prints and designs have reworked their iconic Chuck Taylor All Star 70 and this season it’s no exception. The brand introduces a new sustainable era in their history with their latest project – Converse Renew.

With the consumer pressure on sustainability stronger than ever, Converse is taking the next step to responsibly and consciously think about their production process from beginning to end. This latest Renew project shows how the brand is thinking differently, experimenting and innovating to offer an environmentally conscious answer to footwear production.

Arriving on 5th July, Converse’s Renew Canvas reworks the uppers of the legendary Chuck Taylor with uppers crafted from recycled PET. In case you didn’t know, Polyethylene terephthalate – AKA PET – is a thermoplastic polymer resin of polyester, found commonly when you break down plastic bottles.

And it’s the abundance of plastic bottles that are put to waste day after day which has been used to build these all-new progressive Chuck silhouettes. Renew Canvas still has the same look and feel as the classic Converse canvas we’re all used to, except now its 100% recycled plastic construction is helping to save the planet, one small step at a time.

But the innovation doesn’t stop there. Over the coming months Converse will also be unveiling two other projects under their Renew mission: Renew Denim and Renew Cotton.

By diverting denim waste from landfill, Renew Denim will breathe a new lease of life into waste material. Available in light, medium, and dark shades, every new model will be crafted from old jeans. This upcycling process means each pair will boast its own unique colour variation, adding a touch of individuality to your footwear rotation.

Launching in early 2020, Renew Cotton repurposes cotton scraps from the factory floor to create a composite 40% recycled cotton with polyester to form a new fabric to be used for the uppers.

The Converse Renew Chuck Taylor All Star 70 will be available on 5th July via the size? website and size? store, priced at £75.
