Advanced technology sits comfortably alongside traditional styling in Nike SB’s current approach to footwear. Cult favourites like the Dunk Low and Stefan Janoski have had their uppers and midsoles reconsidered to enhance comfort and protect your feet more efficiently. The newest adaptation takes on the form from Nike’s original basketball silhouette, to create the newly reincarnated Bruin Hyperfeel.

Slated as Nikes first ever basketball shoe, the Bruin debuted on the court in 1973, just a year after the companies inception and entry into the running market. Over the years it gained cult notoriety after a white and red version appeared on Marty Mcfly’s feet in Back to the Future II.

The Bruin crossed over into Nike’s skateboarding category in 2009, with a selection of general release colourways, along with the ‘World Famous’ versions created by Supreme, and a collaboration with dutch skateboard magazine Fluff.  The Bruin went into hibernation for a few years, briefly coming back into the fold last year with a rendition by core Liverpool skate shop Lost Art.

In 2016 the Bruin returns in a new Hyperfeel make-up, presenting a cleaner, lightweight shoe which still protects your feet as much as possible without adding on extra weight. In contrast to it’s original form, any 3D elements across the upper have been flattened to create a seamless upper to minimise tearing from continual board contact. Any areas which require a stitch for strength have been inverted to leave a folded seam instead, and a Hyperscreen layer around the edge of the midsole adds extra protection against board flip abrasion.

The comfort element comes in the form of Nikes newly developed Hypercush, a newborn sibling of the favoured Lunarlon insoles we’ve seen inside previous SB releases. A dual density construction ensures the best cushioning to prevent heel bruises and pains across the balls of your feet. The moulding of the midsole means that the cushioning insert actually sits inside the middle of the cupsole with minimal construction underneath to ensure the comfort is properly felt. This in turn aids with boardfeel to help you feel more in control of your skateboard, further helped by the textured outsole for enhanced grip.

The Nike SB Bruin Hyperfeel is now available online and in selected size? stores.
