A Spotlight On: Terrace Trainers

Fashion has a permanent imprint on football culture; while what happens on the pitch might be the most important part of football for many, the casual brought a new element of tribalism to the stands – what you wear.

Due to Nick Love and co.’s excessive and rich hooligan movies of the past two decades, the football casual subculture might appear to you as a drug-fuelled, Aquascutum nightmare of fast-talking cockneys and Danny Dyer smutty witticism. Now, we aren’t saying that world doesn’t exist, but the culture surrounding terrace fashion has a bit more substance to it.

Hailing back to the ‘70s, terrace fashion found its feet when fans travelled Europe and got a taste for the designer gear that they found along the way. Hordes of fans brought back all of this gear to their hometowns, using it as a way to have a one-up on rival fans while blending into the crowds easier with police on the prowl for hooligans.

With Liverpool’s European success in the ‘70s and ‘80s, they stand tall as one of the sentinels of this switch in terrace fashion. Arguably starting as a means to stand out amongst the rest; the bulky clothing and team colours were replaced with neat haircuts, slimmer jeans, brightly coloured designer uppers and – of course – a pair of 3-Stripes. A notable popular style amongst Merseyside casuals being the adidas Originals Forest Hills in the white and gold colourway.

As casual fashion – a title given to the movement by journalists at the time – spread throughout the country, there was the utmost importance on the whole outfit looking top notch. One element was the first to be judged though – the holy grail of terrace fashion – the trainer.

Throughout our tenure, we’ve persisted on keeping our fingers on the pulse of terrace footwear, while supplying an array of the classics. Whether that’s through a cohort of adidas Originals – especially our lauded Anniversary City Series – or PUMA classics and retro reissues from Diadora and Patrick; our current selection has some must-haves. Give them a look.

adidas Originals Milano OG – ?exclusive

First off, we’ve picked the adidas Originals Milano OG – ?exclusive. It wouldn’t be a collection fit for the terraces without a streamlined pair of suede 3-Stripes. This pair comes with rich blue uppers, offset with luxe golden 3-Stripes and heel branding. Not to forget the classic gum soles and shiny foil branding – a sign-off that transcends time.

Puma Super Team OG

The PUMA Super Team OG ticks all the boxes for a terrace trainer. Arriving in soft suede and coated in a head-turning colourway, these ones get the shiny foil branding for a classic sign-off. Still sat atop gum soles for a nod to its indoor sport days, the Super Team OG is a time resistant icon.

adidas Originals Gazelle Indoor

Another bright colourway to make a statement with, the adidas Originals Gazelle Indoor is a suede-wrapped classic with crisp serrated 3-Stripes on the sidewalls and that classic crinkled tongue. Adorned with shiny foil branding to the lateral sidewalls, this pair comes with semi-translucent rubber soles with tonal labelling for some Trefoil heritage.
