Streetwear and music have always gone hand in hand, and here at size? we understand how crucial the next generation of musicians is to keep both these arenas moving forward. To help, we teamed up with Liverpool’s Sound City festival to launch our ‘size? Artist Training And Development Programme Powered by CAPLL’. The scheme offers 12 up and coming musicians the mentorship, masterclasses, professional insights and opportunities over the next 12 months to hone their craft. And here they are…

With each winner earning a performance at Liverpool’s The Arts Club over the Sound City weekend, as well as the opportunity to perform at Jimmy’s and our size? Liverpool store, we’re proud to introduce a real cross-section of local, new and original voices.

Recky Recks

First up, Recky Reckz. Coming out of South East London, Recky was inspired by grime heavyweights such as Skepta and Giggs to start making music of his own. First emerging in 2018 with debut single ‘Baby Girl’, he has since incorporated various styles including rap, drill and RnB to his form his unique brand. Featuring on Spotify’s Grime Rizing playlist, he has been well received by the local scene and beyond.  Listen here

SKIA

Fresh from the release of latest single ‘Anyone’ – which has already amassed north of 30,000 streams – we’re proud of introduce Liverpool via Norway artist SKIA. Making her Nordic roots known, SKIA takes influence from classic pop such as Britney and blends it with contemporary beats. Her upcoming album will discuss her lived experience and existentialism. Fiona Lennon

With a name like Lennon, there’s a certain expectation when coming out of Liverpool. Unphased, however, Fiona’s soul-soaked style takes inspiration from classics such as The Beatles and Fleetwood Mac, and more contemporary sounds like The Corrs and Alicia Keys. The result, a modern sound steeped in timeless melody. Listen here

Fauna

Receiving airplay from Radio X and BBC Introducing, Manchester-based quartet Fauna blend a classic indie sensibility with some personal sentiments. Featuring on several emerging indie playlists, they’re certainly standing out as one to watch from a city brimming with talent. Listen here

Half Long Poem

Hailing from Liverpool, Half Long Poem are reminiscent of the city’s musical greats from The Beatles to The La’s, while incorporating their own oriental roots. Newly establishing an online presence, this unique blend of culture signs off their original sound. Listen here

Ask Elliot

Ahead of their hometown, headline show at Liverpool O2 Academy 2, we’re thrilled to welcome Ask Elliot to the programme. Having missed out on support slots with Larkins, Monks and SPINN due to the global situation over the last 12 months, we can’t wait to showcase their high-octane indie rock n roll over the Sound City weekend. Remée

With a haunting vocal line, and series of standout singles titled Mr. [so and so], Remée’s style leans on contemporary trap beats with a personal Liverpool inflection. Fresh from the release of ‘Mr. Puppeteer’, we’re excited to see what she brings to a hometown crowd. Listen here

Lewis James

Coming out of Manchester, Lewis James’ DIY lo-fi bedroom pop combines elements of indie, spoken-word and ‘80s nostalgia over modern beats. With the MEN dubbing his debut LP “unpredictable, kaleidoscopic songwriting” he brings a synth-driven sensibility to this year’s Sound City. Listen here

Evie Moran

Highlighted by Getintothis as having “the voice to light up your life”, 19-year-old singer-songwriter Evie Moran is making real waves in the local scene. Having appeared at Folk On the Dock Festival, Threshold Festival and FOCUS Wales, as well as receiving airplay from BBC Introducing, her stripped-back storytelling continues to captivate audiences on an ever growing scale. Medley

Self-styled as a “varied mixture of people or things”, Medley is a Manchester-based independent artist who takes his name from his ventures in acting, producing, MCing and breakdancing. Keen to collaborate, delicate harmonies adorn his tracks while his hip-hop driven vocal cuts through the contemplative backbeats. Listen here

Tilly Louise  

Fresh from the release of latest single ‘laughing’, Tilly Louise makes no secret in voicing her influences. Inspired by the likes of Paramore and Haim, her female-forward brand of alternative pop has seen her supporting Cassia and Fickle Friends, while selling out a headliner show at famed local venue EBGB’s. Jane Lacey
