Ahead of the launch of our Nike Air Zoom Spiridon Cage 2 ‘Carnaby’, we’ve reached out to the area’s wider community to muse over their Carnaby Street memories. First up, it’s Lance Walsh.

Lance Walsh

A fruit vendor by trade, Lance has been selling fruit at his Berwick Street stand for about 30 years. But that’s not all he’s known for, it’s his dress sense that gets him the most attention. Oft dressed head to toe in Supreme, the fashion icon’s been collecting sought-after pieces since 2012.

So as a man who clearly knows a thing or two about the area and its fashion scene, we thought we’d get his opinion on our latest Nike collab, have a read below.

What is your relationship with Carnaby Street?

“I always used to go into Liberty’s to buy my Creed aftershave.”

How long have you been in the Carnaby area?

“I’ve been around here since I was about nine – I used to come down with my dad, and then I started on the flower stall.

“I’ve been on Berwick Street – which is around the corner – most of my life. I’ve got a fruit stall there – I used to love to wander around the whole area on my lunchtime and have a look at things, take it all in.”

What’s your favourite memory of Carnaby Street?

“I used to come down here when I was a kid and watch people get their photographs taken with the punks – that’s all it was, simple as that.”

How would you describe your personal style?

“Casual?”

What are your memories of the size? store?

“I used to watch the queues! When the drops came in, you know? People queuing up outside for their trainers. Crazy.”

What do you think of the Nike Air Zoom Spiridon Cage 2 ‘Carnaby’?

“I think the colours do well to show Carnaby Street, you know? It represents exactly how it is here – colourful, diverse.”

How would you style the Nike Air Zoom Spiridon Cage 2 ‘Carnaby’?

“I’d probably wear it with Supreme.”

If you could time travel and visit any era of Carnaby Street, which would it be?

“The sixties, definitely – it was just so colourful then.”

Keep your eyes on the size? blog over the coming days for more exclusive interviews!
