Converse – From Court To Classic
Adopted by many different cultures for decades Converse has always been a staple brand in all good footwear collections. Whether it’s a simple pair of classic Chucks or a cleanly designed Star Player there’s something for everyone. With changes in fashion trends and increased expectations leaving people wanting something a bit different Converse has consistently stepped up its game and always stayed at the forefront, offering up a vast range of different colours across a range of styles. The top three models that come to mind when thinking of the famous brand though are All Star, Jack Purcell and Pro Leather, each one of them with its own history behind it.
The All Star, the most successful selling basketball shoe ever, first launched back in 1918 and has since become one of most loved canvas shoes of all time that looks as good box fresh as it does customised with tie dye and studs. The Marimekko collection is a perfect example of this, combining both Worlds, featuring a clean upper with vulcanised sole along with modern decorative prints produced by the Finnish creative brand.
Second in line is the Jack Purcell, which takes its name from 1930’s Canadian Badminton Champion of the same name. The most noticeable element of this clean looking silhouette is the iconic smile seen on the rubber toe cap, a hint to Purcell’s sly deviance used on the court to outsmart his opponents. Along with the famous toe-cap, the Jack Purcell is also known for its thin, low-profile upper, which is available in both canvas and leather versions and looks good worn with either smart or casual attire.
Last but not least is the Pro Leather, a 1970’s designed basketball specific silhouette. With its clean base and Star Chevron branding on the upper the Pro Leather stood out like nothing seen before when it first launched. Worn by some of the greatest players in the game, like Julius “Dr. J” Erving, the Pro Leather is all about understated detail and premium materials.
