Our latest PUMA collaboration is an ode to New York
PUMA’s city-inspired terrace collection has seen some stunning silhouettes dreamt up over the last month or so, and our latest collaboration with German brand continues this with quite an interesting one.
Although the shape may be familiar to some – taking elements from the brand’s classic ‘Bluebird’ model – the story is a tale of New York, and more specifically, a homage to American Football legend Joe Namath.
Archival treasures are what we live for here at size? and after having a rummage through PUMA’s back catalogue, we unearthed a custom-built trainer built for New York Jets’ Joe Namath way back when he was busy doing his thing for the brand. It’s somewhat of a fabled pair and information regarding its history is scarcely available, but one thing that we knew for certain is that we had to resurrect its stunning Jets-inspired colour palette.
So, in honorary fashion, we’ve brought the striking white and green suede shoe back to life on a PUMA silhouette as close to the 1-of-1 original as possible. An off-white outsole provides a vintage aesthetic befitting of the OG’s era, and we’ve proudly decorated the pair with a gold ‘New York’ stamp on the sidewall to salute to ‘Broadway Joe’ and his beloved New York Jets.
