We spoke to Jamie Roy ahead of his size? sessions Mix
As part of our size? sessions mix series – week in, week out – we’ve been joined by some of the biggest DJs from around the globe. The response from our followers has been immense, and now it’s nearly time for number 21 in our size? sessions Mix series.
This time around, Do Not Sleep & Cuckoo Land Ibiza resident DJ Jamie Roy is set to join us live from his Manchester studio. It’s set to be a big one, but before we get into that, we’ve caught up with the man behind the mix to learn a little more about him. Dig in below.
Tell us about yourself; where you’re from, what you do and what’s your shoe size?
“I’m from a small town in Scotland called Dumfries, I’m a DJ producer raver and I’m a size 11UK.”
How did you get started in the music industry?
“I started off running night in my home town of Dumfries, I eventually left my job as a plumber to spend a summer in Ibiza, I managed to get a job selling tickets for We Love at the legendary space it snowballed there really playing out regularly on the west end to getting offers a residency with Steve Lawler at Viva Warriors in 2015 then on to Residencies with Do Not sleep and Dance of Die at Ushuaïa.”
How would you describe your music style?
“A bit of everything but it all comes back to house music in some shape or form.”
What has been your record of the year so far and what are you looking forward to hearing for the rest of the year?
“Ah, that’s so hard to answer, but right now my favourite track this year is Oden & Fatzo – 69 party boys the fans remix can’t stop listening.”
Have you been making much music recently and can we expect some releases soon?
“I have been making a lot of music. I’m in the middle of my album for Ultra Music and the first single is out later this year.”
Has there been a particular event/party that has stood out for your career?
“Without a doubt ‘Viva Warriors’ and ‘Do Not Sleep’ were how I established myself.”
And looking further ahead, who should we be looking out for in 2021?
“Kreature is one to watch for sure he has a massive year coming ahead for sure.”
On Friday you’re broadcasting an exclusive size? sessions Mix for us. What can we expect to hear?
“Loads of new and old, always like to mix like that maybe a couple of unreleased ones from me too.”
Outside of the music industry, where do you look for inspiration?
“I love cinema and fashion both are a massive part of my life especially during lockdown this year.”
