As we’re sure you’re all well aware, as part of our 20th-anniversary celebrations, we’ve joined forces with adidas Originals for another city-spanning collection that takes inspiration from the twin cities of the original 2010 ‘Anniversary Series’. And after we twinned 2010’s Dublin with the recently released Liverpool, it’s now time to meet Manchester’s twin, the Cordoba.

For those of you unfamiliar with the city, Cordoba lies within the Andalusia region of southern Spain and is renowned for its annual flower festival. Known colloquially as the “Battle of the Flowers”, each May, the Mediterranean city’s courtyards and patios burst into bloom with purple Carnation petals.

Sharing the same tooling as the Manchester, we decided to encase the Cordoba’s suede and textile uppers in the same rich flower-inspired purple hue to embody the spirit of the city. Gold lettering to the sidewalls and lace-tips call out the model’s moniker, while a gum rubber outsole rests below in signature fashion. The footbed harks back to the Manchester’s original blue and red palette, while golden 1/2020 detailing at the heel signs the pair off.

Just like the Liverpool release, the interior of the shoebox also nods back to Manchester, and what’s more, we’re also putting together another City Guide that looks at the shoe’s inspiration, Cordoba’s identity and history, and much, much more.
