The Fred Perry x size? 20th Anniversary ‘Kaleidoscope’ collection is coming soon
When you think Fred Perry, you tend to conjure up the image of very smart, menswear usually associated with the mod and skinhead movements of the ’60s. But since its introduction in 1952, the classic polo shirt has been adopted by a whole number of sub-cultures over the decades.
So, to celebrate 20 years of size?, for this collaboration with the British fashion stalwarts, we’ve decided to take a trip back to the late ’80s for a striking, three-piece capsule that pays homage to the era’s musical revolution.
Think Britain’s ‘Second Summer of Love’ in ’88, rave culture, and acid house – a time where tie-dye, just as it did in the ’60s, once again became a uniform for likeminded kids rejoicing in fields and warehouses up and down the country. We’ve taken the vibrant energy of that era and channelled it straight into this exclusive collection.
Harking back to the tie-dyed baggy t-shirts and bucket hats that were worn in the Hacienda by scores of Frankie Knuckles fans, the latest release sees Fred Perry’s classic Twin Tipped Polo, a long-sleeved t-shirt and a bucket hat put through a unique dyeing process which means that no two pieces from the collection are alike.
Today, tie-dye lives on as a subcultural icon, immortalised through pop culture references over the years. Intrinsically associated with rave culture, the psychedelic swirls of colour are a symbol of togetherness and of countercultural rebellion. It’s the kit for teams of revellers in joyful protest, significant now more than ever, as we celebrate the 20th year of size?.
