2020 marks 25 years since Nike first introduced the Air Max 95. Sergio Lozano’s legendary silhouette has seen countless reinventions and colour-ups throughout its quarter of a century on the shelves, and now Nike is back with an all-new honorary model, the ‘Greedy 2.0’.

If you’re not too clued up on the history of the 95, the story goes that the inspiration for the Air Max 95 came to ACG designer Sergio Lozano on a rainy day in Nike HQ’s home of Beaverton, Oregon: 

“I was looking across the lake out into the trees and I began picturing the process of rain eroding the earth and thought it would be interesting if the perfect product was unearthed by erosion” – Lozano stated. 

And the inspiration is clear to see: the OG pair boasted a gradient grey upper that resembled the geographical markings of eroded rock walls, and to keep in tune with the nature theme, the Air Max 95 also looked to human anatomy as another key influence. Its layered uppers are said to be inspired by muscle fibres and flesh, along with rib-like nylon eyelets, and a midsole that took after the spine.

Although it was initially considered an outcast among Air Max silhouettes, the 95 gained a cult following thanks to its unapologetic appearance. Youth culture soon rallied behind the Air Max 95, and it’s been a staple within the UK street scene ever since.

So as a salute to the legend, and a nod back to the first ‘Greedy’ model that landed in 2015, this second iteration touches down with a similar asymmetrical aesthetic. 

The mismatched pair turns to archives and brings together four classic colourways – notably the OG Neon and 98’s Crystal Blue – for a fitting tribute to a true Nike classic on its 25th anniversary. All of which rests comfortably upon the model’s dual Air-cushioned sole for foot-supporting goodness.
