size? collections – Matt Southall – footwear collector
It’s time for the next instalment of our size? collections series, and this time we spoke to avid footwear collector Matt Southall – aka @ionM4n – and asked him to pick a few of his favourite pairs from his extensive collection.
Have a flick through below!
Nike x Stussy Air Max 95 – 2015
“I love that this Stussy collab was kept very simple and clean, with nods to the 1st Nike x Stussy collab from 2000. The Link logo, embroidered side Swoosh, simple canvas and suede upper, plus perforated detailing on the tongue – all making sure the Air Max 95 itself remains the star of this hookup.”
adidas Originals x WESC Dakota – 2004
“It’s a bit of an ugly duckling in my opinion, but that’s what appealed to me. This was the first shoe I bought on the internet! It reminds me of using my mum’s ancient PC with dial-up internet.”
Air Jordan 5 ‘3Lab5’ – 2013
” Jordan was my 1st love when it comes to trainers. I used to go to Florida every year with my mum and dad and the highlight was always going to the trainer stores. I’m not a huge collector of the AJ5, but this one really stood out to me. I loved how this shoe pushed the DNA of the Jordan 5. “
Nike x Supreme Air Terra Humara – 2017
“Along with basketball and skate shoes, I am a huge fan of trail shoes. The Humara has always been a trainer I’ve loved. This particular collab is mad and sat on the Supreme site for some time. I took my chance and got the pink, green and blue colourways.”
Nike x Fragment Design Air Max LD-Zero – 2016
“This is a fairly modest collab compared to some in my collection, and it’s why I had to go in. It’s such a lightweight shoe. Using super-soft nylon upper with luxe suede overlays was genius and makes this a regular in my rotation.”
ASICS x Bape GEL-Lyte V – 2015
“I got both the models from this drop but the ASICS GEL-Lyte V is my preferred. Similar to the LD-Zero, it’s remarkably understated for Bape.”
adidas Consortium x UNDFTD Busenitz – 2016
“This was the first pair of adidas Busenitz I bought. Something about the colourway and tooling jumped at me. The premium materials made this silhouette look even slicker to me.”
Nike x Fear Of God Skylon II – 2019
“These sat for quite some time and I never understood why. Jerry Lorenzo and Nike were super careful with this one. It personifies everything I love about collabs.”
adidas Consortium x Mita Seeulater – 2016
“This Consortium model is off its head but I absolutely love it. When you talk about ugly ducklings this has to be near the top of that chart, but what a shoe.”
PUMA x Santa Cruz Suede – 2018
“Holder of one of the most recognisable brand marks in the world – if you are into skate culture anyway. And what better way to celebrate 50 years of the unbelievable PUMA Suede than hooking-up with Californian skate brand Santa Cruz? Genius!”
