size? visits – Berghaus HQ and Archive
Beginning life in 1966, Berghaus was the product of keen outdoorsmen Peter Lockie and Gordon Davidson. After opening their own outdoor shop to share their passion with others, they discovered much of the stock they were carrying just wasn’t up to par and took it upon themselves to try and create something better for the consumer.
Product testing in the early days took place in Austria, which is also the location the ‘Berghaus’ name stems from, translating to ‘Mountain Centre’. The standard of product across the board has always been extremely high, with everything piece undergoing rigorous testing in order to make it the best it can possibly be.
To give a bit of context behind the Berghaus brand itself, we headed North-East visited their Sunderland based Headquarters to speak to Head of Design James Hodgson and Lead Design Kate Ablett, learning about the process from design, to production, and finally the finished product.
