Nike Air Max2 Light OG ‘Blue Lagoon’

This week sees the return of 1994’s Nike Air Max2 Light for its first ever reissue. Back then, Nike’s ‘Visible Air’ silhouettes such as the Classic BW and the Air Max 180 were making waves within the running scene, and the Air Max 2 Light was able to evolve this aesthetic one step further.

As the name suggests, the Air Max2 Light is the lighter version of the coveted Air Max 2. The only main difference between the two shoes occurred within the Air unit. At that time, the Air Max soles compartmentalised Air into pockets and customised their pressure levels for a more responsive feel. The two pockets were supported by a springy 5psi, while the exterior pockets were pumped all the way to 25psi to secure the wearer’s foot in its natural position.

In the ’90s, Air was viewed as the antidote to preventing runners from being weighed down by their midsoles. More Air would mean less sole which would subsequently mean less weight – but the Air Max2 managed to disprove this theory by turning its sole unit into a supportive asset. Designers replaced the single-density foam with the brand’s innovative Phylon – a cushioning material made from EVA pellets which Nike compressed, expanded with heat and then moulded into a supremely lightweight yet supportive midsole.

Returning for the first time since its 1994 debut, the Air Max2 Light is welcomed in a colourway which originally launched during the ’90s. Channelling the famous colours of the Miami Dolphins, panels of premium white leather are offset by pops of ‘Blue Lagoon’ and ‘Laser Orange’. Underfoot, the midsole boasts the aforementioned dual-pressure chamber heel and forefoot Air encapsulated sole unit, as well as the cushioning Phylon midsole and Duralon outsole.

The Nike Air Max2 Light ‘Blue Lagoon’ will be available on the size? previews app and in selected size? stores on Friday 18th January, priced at £110 and available in sizes 3.5-12.
