TIMELINE: Nike Air Huarache Light ‘OG’
The latest addition to our TIMELINE series, focuses on arguably the most iconic Nike Air Huarache Light ‘Ultramarine’ colourway.
Another brainchild of Nike design legend Tinker Hatfield, the Air Huarache was inspired by a boot used for water sports; the neoprene sock liner and heel cage gave additional comfort and support. The Air Huarache Light used the regular Air Huarache blueprint but merely as the foundations; they stripped any excess weight and materials.
So to release the new, lighter silhouette, Nike experimented with new colour palettes and materials, unbeknown to them that the result would go down in history forever. Sitting on a clean white midsole, accents of Dragon Red feature on the sole as well as the heel tab, swoosh and Air Huarache branding on the tongue. The upper is made up predominantly of a hard wearing black mesh and caging meeting the soft, blue paneling . Hits of a light cyan blue work in tandem with the ultramarine, creating a colourway that has been lauded ever since.
The last re-issue of the Air Huarache Light in its original colours came in 2004, so ten years on, Nike are paying homage by re-releasing the Air Huarache Light ‘OG’.
