adidas Originals Sobakov
With football taking centre stage once again with the World Cup kicking off this week, adidas Originals present a modern rendition of the ‘casual football shoe’ in the form of the new Sobakov.
Stylistically the shoe takes inspiration from terrace classics of the past, and imagines where they would sit in both the modern day and future. The traditional ‘flat gum sole and three stripes’ combination has been waiting for an update of sorts, and this is the perfect solution. Collaborative projects the brand have been putting out in recent times have hinted at this kind of aesthetic, in particular their work with designer Gosha Rubchinskiy and his forward thinking collections.
Obvious design traits from the heralded Predator line are visible across the upper, with the waved stripes seen on 2000’s Precision installment of the legendary range of football boots. The traditional boot leather upper has been overhauled with a deep black knitted upper, with linear embroidery running across the toebox, slightly reminiscent of the original boot. Sitting underfoot, a chunky, all gum sole bares a rippled texture across the entire length of the unit. Minimal hints of leather creep subtly into the Sobakov, in the form of the sweeping stripes, heel counter and tongue panel.
The adidas Originals Sobakov are available online and in selected size? stores, priced at £100.
