Meet the Designer: Emily Hayward – Plymouth College of Art

We caught up with the Plymouth College of Art’s Emily Hayward to talk to her about the inspirations behind her Graduate Fashion Week collection. With a passion for understanding the world and our impact on it, Emily’s pieces incorporate themes of self-awareness and straying from the norm, resulting in graphic prints that stretch across the whole collection. Making her pieces from recycled denim, Emily’s work incorporates old clothing from her friends and family for a more personal touch.

As well as the handmade, patchwork element to her work, there are also digitally printed renditions of the texture which were applied to elasticated materials to form the structure of croptop’s.

Emily selected the Nike Air Max 95 and Air Max 97 Terrazzo to feature alongside her collection due to it’s similar aesthetic that tied into each piece seamlessly, with both the colour scheme and style of graphic aligning with her chosen direction.
