This week see’s the welcome amalgamation of 80’s inspired running design and futuristic technology. After a five year hiatus the Nike Lunar Flow returns to the market with slight material variations to it’s predecessor. Available in a monochrome black & white, Gucci-flavoured Green & Red, and a blue & white version reminiscent of colours used on the Air Flow’s original neoprene release back in 1988.

The detail on the mesh underlay on this update seems slightly wider than the previous rendition, enhancing ventilation and breathability across the upper. The rest of the panelling is constructed with thin Hyperfuse strips which hold the mesh sections together, and teamed up with Nike’s original Lunarlon midsole unit it’s a very clean update to an obscure 80’s favourite.

In our HQ vault we’re fortunate enough to have an original pair of Air Flow from 1988, complete with techsheet detailing the in’s and out’s of the midsole construction and how it affects cushioning. You can see from the comparison below the panelling on the Lunar Flow is kept true to the original, and the unmistakeable shape is still present, albeit with a few slight alterations due to the mesh replacing the original neoprene toebox.
