Puma Fenty Trainer by Rihanna

Since her appointment as Womens Creative Director back in 2014, fans of Rihanna have been eagerly waiting to see what the partnership will conjur up. The first installment landed in the middle of 2015 in form of the Puma Creeper, a reinterpretation of the classic Puma Suede complete with the retro platform midsole. The first drop from this latest collection debuts the high-top Fenty Trainer, a futuristic style taking it’s moniker from the collections namesake.

The Fenty Trainer features some classic Puma elements such as the ever-present formstripe shape sweeping across the lateral side of each shoe, but this historic blueprint of branding is then flipped on its head in dramatic fashion. The entire footwear selection follows the lead of the apparel, with it’s emphasis on over exaggerated proportions and experimental shapes, and a varied palette of materials working alongside each other. The upper and tongue on the Fenty Trainer comprises of four different types of mesh, each varying in texture and thickness from soft sandwich mesh around the toebox to hardwearing plastic honeycomb which helps to aid the overall shape of the shoe.

The apex feature is the unmissable extended tongue which amplifies the height to flow into the accompanying apparel you might be wearing. If the shape wasn’t eye-catching enough, the detailing is finished off with reflective pull tabs spanning the length of the tongue and just above the heel counter.
