After the success of the first Spezial event held in London back in July 2013, adidas Originals brand consultant Gary Aspden and his team pulled together another phenomenal showcase of footwear, this time hosted in one of the spiritual homes of adidas in the UK, Manchester.

Over the years adidas as a brand has found itself adopted by a multitude of subcultures in both the UK and across the world, from the early stages of Hip-Hop to the terraces of the football casual culture.  Spezial looks to commentate on as many of these as possible in order to cater for it’s widespread audience, and with that comes an enormous variety of incredible footwear on display to enjoy.  Popular features included several models from the iconic City and Island series, various incarnations of the recently reestablished EQT range, and glass cases full of autographed shoes, and promotional samples and limited releases from street wear brands such as A Bathing Ape and Neighbourhood.

Before the initial event we were once again treated to a presentation by event curator Gary Aspden, who gave us an overview of his previous work at the brand, and a breakdown of how the exhibition has evolved from it’s short time at the Hoxton location last year.  Extra contributors had been drafted onto the already impressive list, and select shoes found at Carlos’ fabled Buenos Aires location from the ‘Sole Searching’ film were also included, some of which needed to be completely re-soled by experts at the european HQ after crumbling away in their hands in the heat of Argentina!

The adidas Originals Spezial Exhibition is located at 7 Dale Street, Manchester and runs as part of the Design Manchester 2014.  It’s open to the public from 12pm-8pm daily, running until November 2nd.
