With a number of jobs including freelance shoemaker, weaver and paper sculptor, you’d think Mike Friton would have enough on his plate without being an innovator as well, with over 30 years of experience at Nike. In this short film, we are shown the different elements for which he is responsible that in use across a wide range of athletic footwear today.

His jobs span a large field of design, but even though a weaver or a paper sculptor might seem totally different, Mike shows us that with a use of non-traditional techniques and an exploration of one’s craft, the final outcome can be a perfect example of how footwear is evolving more rapidly than ever imaginable.
