Nike Air Jordan V (black/varsity red-silver)

Originally released in 1990, the Air Jordan V has been reissued once again and is due to drop in size? stores and online soon for the first time in this colour combination since 2006.

When designing what would become one of the most iconic Air Jordan silhouettes of all time, top Nike designer – Tinker Hatfield, looked toward the WWII Mustang fighter plane for inspiration for the teeth styling on the midsole, paying tribute to Michael Jordan’s ariel domination on the courts of the NBA. In a year that saw MJ win his fourth scoring title, it was in the V’s that he achieved a career high 69 point game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The J5 has seen a number of colour ups and material changes over the years, however, for this 2011 retro the guys at Jordan Brand have kept the changes relatively subtle. The upper utilises a soft nubuck, which should help reduce the creasing effect to the toe box that we’ve seen with so many Jordan’s over the years, and an ice blue outsole, which should help combat that age old issue of yellowing. For the tongue, Nike have again gone with the same reflective 3M material that made the V a hit 21 years ago.

All in all, this latest incarnation of an all time classic is a must for fans new and old and one not to be missed. After all, we’ve had to wait 5 years since this colourway was last out…

The black/varsity red-silver Air Jordan V will be available from size? stores and online from this Friday (19th August).
